Early voting is now open in Miami-Dade County for the August 18 primary, giving voters until Sunday, August 16, to cast ballots at 23 sites around the county.
The immediate deadline is Thursday, August 6: Miami-Dade says that is the final day to request a vote-by-mail ballot for this election. Voted mail ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, August 18.
What changed
Miami-Dade’s elections office opened early voting on Monday, August 3. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, August 7; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 8 and 9; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from August 10 through August 14; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 15 and 16.
The county’s live wait-time page, updated Tuesday, August 4, also says secure ballot intake stations are staffed at early voting locations during operating hours.
Why Miami voters should check the ballot
Beyond countywide and primary contests, City of Miami voters have local referendum questions on the August 18 ballot. One asks voters about a management agreement for Miami Marine Stadium and Flex Park, a long-shuttered public venue on Virginia Key. WLRN reported that Sweetwater voters also have local questions to review.
Miami voters may use any Miami-Dade early voting site, according to the city’s election page. The practical choice is whether to vote early, request a mail ballot by August 6, or wait until Election Day, when voters must use their assigned precinct.
